The Great Listener Lie: How My Delulu Got Busted
For a decade, I've been thinking I was a good listener, but this delulu was busted when I got into a relationship with a girl who can actually speak continuously about ANYTHING.
We've been discussing what to buy or rent, when to buy, where to buy, and what we actually want. For some time, I was listening because I didn't have anything to say or suggest about what she was saying.
But as soon as I did, it was game over. I just kept interrupting her now and then.
She blasted me, asking:
"Would you let me finish? You just keep interrupting. You say you're a good listener, but you just speak less — sometimes."
And it struck me. She was actually right. I'm not a good listener.
I'm not a good listener; I just speak less because I get nervous around people and don't know how to carry the conversation — I think. And here I was, believing I was a good listener.
And here I was, believing I was a good listener.
So, that's it. Gone are the days when I can tell people I'm a good listener. Or are they?
Now that I know one of the problems I have, I can work on it, or at least I can try 🤷🏻♂️
The Realization
All in all, I got a reflection of who I am:
- Maybe I'm not a good listener
- I can try to be one now that I know what I shouldn't do
So, that was it. That was my rant on my delulu.
See you in the next session 👋🏼
